Her father and grandfather farmed and harvested tea, while her uncle still makes oolongs in his micro factory. Chau-Jean has informally studied the art of tea ceremony under her aunt, who is a recognised gong fu cha master in Taiwan.

Since starting the company, she has been highly commended for Sophie Coe Prize for Food Writing and shortlisted for the Yan-Kit So Memorial Award for Food Writers on Asia. She currently teaches the Taiwanese tea masterclass at the UK Tea Academy and lectures on tea and entrepreneurship at universities around the world.
