There’s no stopping Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
With the latest news just in from across the pond, Eleanor has done it again, selling a total of one million copies in all formats stateside. And with over 900,000 copies now sold in paperback alone in the UK, it can’t be long until she also reaches this even greater and monumental milestone over here.
It comes as little surprise. The novel was sitting at No. 3 in the US again last week, and has spent a phenomenal 35 weeks in the New York Times bestseller list overall – never droping below No. 5.
Just last month, Gail was awarded the Platinum Bestseller Award at the Nielsen Book Awards for being the overall bestselling book of 2018 in the UK, as well as celebrating seven non-consecutive weeks in the UK charts.
Since publication in 2017, the No. 1 bestselling novel of 2018 has spent 16 weeks as a No.1 Sunday Times bestseller, and an outstanding 64 weeks in the UK charts.
Last year, Gail was nominated for no less than 19 prizes. She won the Costa First Novel Award 2017, the Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, the Readers’ Choice Award at the Books are My Bag Awards 2018, the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Novel Award, the Audio Production Awards, the Waverton Good Read Award, and not one, but three prizes at the British Book Awards – Overall Book of the Year, Fiction Debut Book of the Year and Marketing Strategy of the Year.
It was shortlisted for The Desmond Elliot Prize 2018; the Independent Booksellers Book Award 2018; the Australian Book Industry Awards; the Books are my Bag Readers Awards 2017; the Festival Du Premier Roman award; and the Audiobook of the Year at the British Book Awards.
It was announced at the end of last year that the film adaption of Eleanor Oliphant is set to be produced by Reese Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine, who will partner with production giant, MGM Studios. The script will be written by Liz Hannah, writer of the Stephen Spielberg film, The Post.
