It’s been a wonderful week for Leah Hazard and Elizabeth Macneal.

Leah Hazard’s Hard Pushed has continued to do incredibly well since its publication on 2nd May. The hilarious and heart rendering memoir about life as a midwife for the NHS leapt into the  Hardback Non-Fiction Charts at No. 12 within a week of publication. This week, it’s moving up, and is currently in the Top 10, sitting at No. 9 following its first full week of sales. 2,239 copies have been sold overall.

The book has received a huge amount of coverage so far. To date, an extract has been published in The Times, Leah has given interviews for The Telegraph, the Express and The Mirror, she has written an article for The Guardianand she gave an interview on BBC Scotland. The Mirror called the novel a “no-holds-barred account of working on the front line of NHS maternity services”.

Elizabeth Macneal’s The Doll Factory also continues to soar. Entering the hardback charts at No. 5 following publication on the 2nd May, the novel was at No. 1 in The Times this week, and has maintained its positioning at No. 5 in the Sunday Times fiction charts. To date, 4,480 hardback copies have been sold.

All around the country and the world, it has been honoured with the most gorgeous window displays, from Newcastle to Australia and Switzerland.

This week, it has garnered a huge amount of attention from the press, and has been featured in The TimesThe Scotsman, The Daily Mail, Reader’s Digest, and The Herald to name a few. Reader’s Digest said: “Ever since the success of Sarah Perry’s The Essex Serpent, there’s been no shortage of good modern gothic novels. The Doll Factory might just be the best yet.”

The novel was also picked as one of The Sunday Times’ “Must Reads” this week, will be featured as part of BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime until the end of the week, and Elizabeth has been interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row.
