Madeleine Milburn has been named as one of the The Bookseller‘s 150 Most Influential People in the Book Trade.

This is the third year in a row that Madeleine has featured on the list, adding to a growing list of accolades and awards for the Agency’s founder.

This year, The Bookseller reported: “MMLA’s clients triumphed this year: Mark Edwards’ books sold three million copies; C.J. Tudor’s The Chalk Man won several awards; Poonam Mistry was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal; while debutant Anna Fargher picked up a Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award. Oh, and the Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine paperback hit the million copy mark. Milburn has also struck huge deals for Ashley Audrain’s The Push (including a seven-figure deal with Michael Joseph) and Lizzy Goudsmit’s Seven Lies [writing as Elizabeth Kay]”

Madeleine’s devotion to her authors was recognised in 2018, when she was named as Agent of the Year at the British Book Awards 2018. She was praised for her “prolific deal-making” and “long-term vision for her authors” and a “tenacious negotiator and an excellent collaborator with a nose for commercial success”.

Two years on from Madeleine’s first inclusion on this list – known in the industry as The Bookseller 150 –  the Agency has doubled in size, outgrowing our offices in Shepherd Market. In January we are moving to The Factory, an old metal works in Clapham that will allow us to expand further and offer an event space for our clients and literary events too. This is a tribute to all that Madeleine has achieved since the Agency’s beginning in 2012, and also a sign of our ambitions for it in the future.
